Persistence decreases with flash illuminance and duration (Bowen, Pola, Matin 1974; Breitmeyer 1984; Coltheart 1980). Higher luminance or longer duration habituates the gated dipole ON channel more. Causes larger and faster rebound in the OFF channel to shut persisting ON activity off.
